1968 Detroit Game: Denny McLain Start #18

June 24, 1968

The Detroit Tigers came roaring back in the late innings again tonight as they defeated the Cleveland Indians 7-4.  Denny McLain got the start for Detroit, but he wasn't around for the end of this one and got no decision in the game. McLain was roughed up by the Indians in the first 3 innings and by the time he left for a pinch hitter in the 8th inning, the Tigers trailed 4-0. The Detroit batters finally got to Cleveland starter Mike Paul in that 8th inning for 3 runs. Then in the 9th inning, Jim Northrup hit a solo homer off  Indian reliever Eddie Fisher to tie the game at 4 and send it into extra innings. The Tigers scored 3 runs in the 10th walked away with a 7-4 victory.
The Tigers won all 5 games against the Indians in this series. 3 of the games where won in extra innings, and the other 2 were come-from-behind late inning rallies. Detroit has won 17 of their last 18 games and are really putting some distance between themselves and the rest of the AL.
