1968 Detroit Game: Denny McLain Start #13

June 5, 1968

  Denny McLain and Ray Culp matched up in a well pitched game today. McLain and the Detroit Tigers came out on top of Culp and the Boston Red Sox 3-2. With 2 outs and the game tied at 2 after a Dick McAuliffe homerun in the 5th inning, the Tigers strung 3 base-hits together for their 3rd and final run of the game. McLain shut down Boston the rest of the way and walked off the field with his 10th Win of the season.

Denny McLain pitched a complete game as the Detroit Tigers outscored the
Boston Red Sox 3 to 2.
 
McLain(10-2) was very good in the win.  He surrendered only 5 hits and 2 walks
in 9 innings.  Boston had a chance to come back in the 9th but they came up
short.  
 
Ray Culp(2-2) was the loser.  He pitched 9 innings allowing 9 hits and 4
walks. Detroit continued their winnings ways improving their record to a
league leading 39-12.  They are 9-1 in their last ten games.  With this loss,
Boston has a 3-7 record of late, 23-28 overall.
