Dick McAuliffe blasted a homerun and had 3 RBI as the red-hot Detroit Tigers
topped the Boston Red Sox by a score of 10 to 8 at Tiger Stadium.

McAuliffe helped send the fans home happy. He banged out a single in the 1st
inning, doubled which scored a run in the 2nd inning and clubbed a two-run
home run in the 4th inning. Boston scored in 6 different innings, but their
shaky pitching kept them from victory.

The winning pitcher was Joe Sparma(10-3) who allowed 6 runs in 5 and 1/3
innings. Pat Dobson earned his 2nd save. Gary Bell(2-7) took the loss. He
was knocked around pretty good, giving up 8 runs in 3 and 1/3 innings.

Detroit continued their winning ways, seemingly unable to lose during this
stretch. 'We're on quite a roll lately' said Mayo Smith. 'I just hope we can
keep it going.'

Norm Cash homered as the seemingly unstoppable Detroit Tigers staged a
dramatic comeback over the Boston Red Sox by a score of 4 to 3 at Tiger
Stadium.

Detroit had the game winning rally in the 9th inning scoring 2 runs using 3
hits. Lenny Green opened up the inning nicely when he ripped a base-hit.
After an out was recorded, Jose Santiago then let loose a wild pitch. Mickey
Stanley struck out, unable to help the rally. Jim Northrup followed and he
lashed a single. Bill Freehan came up to bat and drew a walk to load the
bases. Willie Horton added to the uprising and lined a one-base hit giving
Detroit the win as 33,367 happy fans joyfully celebrated. Both teams ended
up with 10 hits on the night.

John Hiller(4-2) went 2/3 of an inning allowing no runs for the win. The
losing pitcher was Santiago(5-6). 'Now that is what I call fun! I just love
baseball, especially games like this, of course,' Mayo Smith offered.
'Everyone at the stadium had a great time - did you see the fans go wild
there at the end?!'

1968 NL Standings and League Leaders

June 15, 1968

Halfway through he month of June in the 1968 NL season. Lots of excellent pitching going on in the league. Many starters have ERA's below 2.00. The best of the lot has been St. Louis Cardinal Bob Gibson who continues to dominate. He's 12-2 with a 1.44 ERA and leads the NL in K's. Pittsburgh's Maury Wills surprisingly continues to lead the NL in hitting with Cincinnati's Tommy Helms only 1% point in back of him.

Bob Gibson went 9 solid innings as the St. Louis Cardinals beat the Atlanta
Braves by a score of 4 to 0.

St. Louis jumped on top to stay in the 2nd inning plating an isolated run.
That early scoring was all that Gibson(12-1) needed. St. Louis had a total
of 9 hits for the game.

Dick Kelley(2-5) took the loss. He surrendered 4 runs in 7 and 1/3 innings
and saw his ERA increase from 2.39 to 2.65. 'We didn't have a whole lot of
chances tonight,' Lum Harris said. 'Gibson just was too much for our guys.'
