Right fielder Jim Northrup left the yard and had 2 RBI as the Detroit Tigers
rallied impressively to win in dramatic style over Minnesota Twins, 4 to
3.

Detroit erupted with the game winning runs in the bottom of the 9th inning
with 3 runs using 4 hits. Dick McAuliffe led off and got things going when
he laced a single. After an out was recorded, Northrup came up and he lifted
one out of the park for a two run home run. Bill Freehan then doubled.
Willie Horton was up next and he was walked intentionally. Don Wert came up
to bat and delivered a single making Detroit the victors to the delight of
the home town faithful. Detroit rapped out 10 hits for the afternoon.

John Hiller(3-2) went 1 inning allowing no runs for the win. The loss was
charged to Jim Merritt(8-5). He surrendered 4 runs and 9 hits in 8 and 1/3
innings.

'That was exciting!,' Northrup said. 'I would have paid money to watch this
one.'
