1968 Detroit Game: Denny McLain Start #16

June 16, 1968

 The Detroit Tiger's winning streak has reached 10 games as they downed the Chicago White Sox 2-1in the 2nd game of today's doubleheader. Denny McLain got the start for Detroit and went the distance for his 11th win of the season. Chicago made it exciting in the 9th but failed to score with runners on 3rd and 2nd with 2 outs.

Denny McLain allowed Mayo Smith to rest his bullpen, tossing a complete game
and Norm Cash had 2 base hits as the seemingly unstoppable Detroit Tigers
bested the Chicago White Sox 2 to 1 at Comiskey Park.
 
In the top of the 3rd inning Detroit went on top for good plating one
baserunner utilizing 2 base hits.  After two were out Dick McAuliffe drew a
walk.  McAuliffe was safe at second on a stolen base.  Mickey Stanley then
singled scoring the run.  Chicago had a chance to come back in the 9th but
they came up short.  
 
McLain(11-2) was the winner allowing 1 run for the game. Cisco Carlos(1-7)
absorbed the loss.  He surrendered 2 runs and 6 hits in 6 innings.
