1968 Detroit Game: Denny McLain Start #17

June 20, 1968

 The Detroit Tiger's 12 game winning streak came to a halt tonight against the Boston Red Sox. Reggie Smith hit a solo shot in the 9th inning and Boston held on to win 3-2. It was a pitchers duel that saw both starters go the distance. Dick Ellsworth got the Win for the Red Sox. Denny McLain got the start for Detroit, gave up 3 homeruns and took the Loss.

Reggie Smith hit a homerun and Dick Ellsworth pitched a complete game as the
Boston Red Sox beat the Detroit Tigers by a score of 3 to 2.
 
The game was won by Boston with a run in the top of the 9th inning.  Smith
clubbed a solo home run.  Boston managed 7 hits in their victory.
 
Ellsworth(9-3) finished the game allowing 2 runs in the victory. Denny
McLain(11-3) was charged with the loss.  He allowed 3 homeruns in 9 innings
of work.
