The longest game of the season in the NL was played today at Philadelphia's Shibe park. Luckily it was a day game as the contest took almost 6 hours to complete. With the score tied 3-3 after 9 innings, the Los Angeles Dodgers finally came out victorious in the 21st inning. The Dodgers scored 3 runs in the 21st and held on to win 6-3. The teams combined for 37 hits and 13 walks in the ballgame.

Third baseman Bob Bailey had 3 base hits and 2 RBI at Shibe Park where the Los
Angeles Dodgers beat the Philadelphia Phillies in 21 innings by the score of
6 to 3.
Both teams were tied at 3 runs apiece after nine innings. Los Angeles ended
up winning it in the 21st inning. Zoilo Versalles led off and started the
attack as he lashed a single. Versalles got a good lead and stole second.
Bart Shirley then doubled scoring a run. Wes Parker followed next and he
doubled driving in another run. After an out was recorded, Len Gabrielson
stepped up to the plate and he laced a one-base hit scoring the final run of
the inning. Los Angeles lit up the scoreboard in the 21st inning with 3 runs
on 5 hits. Overall Los Angeles out-hit Philadelphia 20 to 17.
Jim Brewer(4-1) allowed no runs in 2 innings, and picked up the victory. The
losing pitcher was Turk Farrell(0-1) in relief. He allowed Los Angeles 3
runs in 2 innings of work.
