Camilo Pascual tossed a shutout and shortstop Ron Hansen had 2 base hits as
the Washington Senators defeated the Detroit Tigers 1 to 0 at D.C.
Stadium.

Pascual(7-6) gave Washington a solid outing. He didn't give up much, just 6
hits and 1 walk in 9 innings. Detroit tried unsuccessfully to come back in
the 9th.

Denny McLain(15-4) was the losing pitcher. He surrendered 1 run and 9 hits in
8 innings. Jim Lemon was in a talkative mood in the clubhouse, 'Great game!
If only we could win all of the close ones - wouldn't that be nice! Since
that's not going to happen, I think I'll savor this one for a little while.'

** Kaline, Horton, and Brown all had Homerun chances. All came up short.**
