Third baseman Ron Santo rocketed 3 homeruns and had 7 RBI and Joe Niekro
tossed a complete game at Candlestick Park as the Chicago Cubs beat the San
Francisco Giants by the count of 13 to 5.

Santo was a source of great heartache for the San Francisco faithful all day.
He just kept pounding out hits! He delivered a one-base hit in the 1st
inning, clubbed a three-run home run in the 3rd inning, smacked a three-run
homer in the 4th inning and smashed a bases-empty 'big-fly' in the 5th
inning. Chicago had a total of 17 hits for the game.

The victory went to Niekro(4-12) who went the distance allowing 5 runs. Ron
Herbel(2-2) was tagged with the loss. He was hit hard and gave up 9 hits and
3 walks in 3 innings.

'I felt great out there today' Santo said. 'I was seeing the ball perfectly,
and I was right on it with my swing.
