Bob Gibson whiffed 10 batters at Shea Stadium where the St. Louis Cardinals
beat the New York Mets by the score of 1 to 0.

The game was won by St. Louis with a run in the top of the 9th inning. Curt
Flood reached on an error. After an out was recorded, Orlando Cepeda came up
and he laced a single. Tim McCarver was next to bat, but he was a strikeout
victim. Mike Shannon was up next and he slapped a single scoring the run.
St. Louis had just 6 hits for the night.

For Gibson(17-5) it was his 7th shutout this year. The loss was charged to
Dick Selma(6-9). He was a hard-luck loser as he did not allow an earned run
in his 9 innings of work.

'Everything felt great' Gibson said. 'I had a good fastball, I felt I could
throw it by everybody tonight.'
