1968 Detroit Game: Denny McLain Start #2

April 17, 1968

 In a good matchup between 2 tough pitchers, Denny McLain and the Detroit Tigers defeated Sam McDowell and the Cleveland Indians 2-0. McLain threw a dandy in his 2nd start of the season. He struck out 10 and ended up with a complete game shutout for his 1st Win of the season. The Tigers scored 2 unearned runs off McDowell in the 2nd inning and that was all they needed for the victory.

Denny McLain whiffed 10 batters as the Detroit Tigers defeated the Cleveland
Indians by a score of 2 to 0 at Tiger Stadium.
 
McLain(1-0) was on top of his game.  He was stingy on the mound, allowing just
5 hits and 1 walk in 9 innings lowering his ERA to 2.40.  Neither team
managed to score after the 2nd inning.  
 
Sam McDowell(1-1) was tagged with the loss.  It was a tough loss for him as he
did not allow an earned run in his 7 innings of work.  
 
'I've been working on a few things in my delivery, and I think I'm hitting a
good groove.' McLain said after the game.  'I'm ready to start another game
tomorrow!'
