Denny McLain whiffed 10 batters as the Detroit Tigers defeated the New York
Yankees in 10 innings by the score of 4 to 3 at Yankee Stadium.

The game was deadlocked at 3 after nine full innings. Detroit came out the
victor in the 10th inning. Dick McAuliffe reached on an error. McAuliffe
was running on the next pitch and he stole second. After an out was
recorded, Bill Freehan then drew a walk. Norm Cash came up and he laced a
single scoring the run. Cash took second on the throw. Detroit rapped out
11 hits for the afternoon.

McLain(3-0), allowing 3 runs for the game, picked up the victory. Joe
Verbanic(0-2) was the loser in relief. He was pinned with the loss despite
not allowing an earned run in his 2 innings of work.

McLain was humble when questioned about his performance, 'Well, I felt pretty
confident in my pitches this afternoon. But, I had great support behind me
and I just threw what was called. That was an extremely well called game!'
