1968 Opening Day in Detroit

April 10, 1968

The Detroit Tigers opened the 1968 AL season at home with a packed ballpark and high hopes for the year. But Detroit floundered badly today as the Boston Red Sox pounded them 11-6.  Three errors committed by the hometeam proved costly, and the 3 homeruns among the 13 hits allowed by the pitching staff didn't help matters either. The Tiger batters kept trying to come back from a deficit throughout the game, but it was always 1 step forward, 2 steps back. Sloppy fielding and poor pitching did in Detroit on this Opening Day.
