1968 Detroit Game: Denny Mclain Start #19

June 29, 1968

 Denny McLain got off to another poor start in tonight's game against the Chicago White Sox. McLain gave up 5 runs in the 1st 3 innings, but Detroit manager Mayo Smith stuck with him and the Tigers came roaring back to win the ballgame 10-5. Detroit batters, led by Jim Northrup, pounded out 16 hits off the Sox pitching.

Denny McLain was able to finish what he started and was credited with a
complete game and Jim Northrup had 4 hits and 2 RBI as the phenomenal Detroit
Tigers topped the Chicago White Sox by a score of 10 to 5 at Tiger
Stadium.
 
Detroit jumped on top to stay in the bottom of the 5th inning with 2 runs.
After an out was recorded, Tommy Matchick initiated the scoring spurt when he
drew a walk.  Dick Tracewski stepped up to the plate and he tripled bringing
in a run.  McLain then reached on an error scoring the final run of the
inning.  Detroit managed 16 hits in their victory.  
 
The win went to McLain(12-3) who allowed 5 runs in the game. Don McMahon(3-1)
was the losing pitcher in relief.  He allowed 2 runs and 1 hit in 1 inning.
