John Hiller delivered 9 solid innings at Tiger Stadium where the powerful
Detroit Tigers beat the Baltimore Orioles 3 to 1.

Detroit did all of it's offensive work in the 1st inning with 3 runs on 2
hits. Dick McAuliffe opened up the inning nicely when he hit a single.
Mickey Stanley followed and he reached on an error. Al Kaline then drew a
walk to load the bases. Willie Horton came up and he would ground out
bringing in a run. Bill Freehan came up to bat and stroked a one-base hit as
another two runners scored. That was all the offense they were to need.
After the 2nd inning, neither team was able to score.

Hiller(10-3) got the victory, allowing 1 run for the game. The loss was
charged to Dave McNally(14-12). He surrendered just 4 hits and 1 walk in 7
innings.
