Denny McLain benefited from another late inning rally as the Detroit Tigers defeated the Cleveland Indians 3-2 tonight. McLain allowed 2 runs and scattered 8 hits before he was lifted for a pinch-hitter in the bottom of the 8th with Detroit trailing 2-1. The Tigers scored 2 runs in the bottom of the 8th with Al Kaline getting the key hit, a 2 run double. Jon Warden came on to record his 3rd save and Denny McLain got his 18th Win of the season.

The potent Detroit Tigers edged the Cleveland Indians at Tiger Stadium by the
score of 3 to 2.
Denny McLain(18-4) gave Detroit a solid outing. He allowed 8 hits and 1 walk
in 8 innings. Cleveland had 8 hits in the game while Detroit had 3, but
Detroit had the more timely hits.
McLain was helped out by Jon Warden who recorded his 3rd save. Sonny
Siebert(11-11) was the losing pitcher. He pitched 8 innings giving up only 3
hits and 3 walks.
Detroit continued their winnings ways improving their record to a league
leading 83-29. They are 8-2 in their last ten games. With the loss
Cleveland now has a record of 62-53.
