TEAM RISP- Tigers: 8 for 12 Senators: 1 for 9
In an embarrassing outing for the floundering Washington Senators pitching
staff, Detroit Tigers flexed their collective muscle amassing 22 runs as Joe
Sparma(5-1), with relief help from Dennis Ribant, surrendered 2 runs to
Washington.
Al Kaline had a big day at the plate. He launched a Grand Slam homerun in the
5th inning, laced a base-knock which brought home a run in the 6th inning and
tripled clearing all three ducks off the pond in the 8th inning. Detroit
bats were hot in the 4th inning with 8 runs on 5 hits and the 8th inning
scoring 6 runs. For the game Detroit out-hit Washington 15 to 9.
Frank Bertaina(0-4) was the losing pitcher. He got hit hard, allowing 7 hits
and 3 walks in 3 and 2/3 innings.
