1968 AL Game Stories: BSN @ NY

May 13, 1968

 Ken Harrelson had a big day at the plate for Boston as the Red Sox took both games of a double-header from the New York Yankees. Boston beat up on the Yankees by taking Game 1 17-2, then winning Game 2 11-0. Harrleson had 3 Homeruns and 10 RBI on the day to lead the Red Sox attack.

Ken Harrelson launched 2 homeruns and had 5 RBI as the Boston Red Sox ballclub
embarrassed the New York Yankees by the count of 17 to 2.
 
Harrelson was a one-man wrecking crew.  He smacked a three-run homer in the
1st inning, blasted a two-run home run in the 3rd inning and hit a single in
the 5th inning.  Boston bats were hot in the 5th inning when they had 9 runs
on 8 hits.  Boston had 19 hits for the game and New York had 8.  
 
The victory was credited to Dick Ellsworth(5-1) who went 8 and 2/3 innings,
allowing 2 runs. Bill Monbouquette(1-3) took the loss.  He served up 4 gopher
balls in 4 and 2/3 innings.  
 
'Actually, I didn't feel that comfortable at the plate today' Harrelson said
after the game.  'Despite that, I'm happy with the results!

Gary Bell carried a no-hitter into the 7th inning and right fielder Ken
Harrelson connected with a 'big fly' and had 5 RBI as the Boston Red Sox
man-handled the New York Yankees - the final score was 11 to 0.
 
Harrelson was a thorn in the side of the hometown fans as he enjoyed a fine
day at their team's expense.  He ripped a single knocking in a run in the 5th
inning and rifled a three-run blast in the 7th inning.  Boston finished with
16 hits in the victory.  
 
Bell(1-1) went the distance for the shutout.  The right-handed Bell lost his
no-hit bid when Roy White singled with one out in the 7th inning.  Fred
Talbot(1-3) suffered the loss.  He allowed a few too many baserunners giving
up 6 hits and 2 walks in 2 and 1/3 innings.
