In the 1st game of a 3 game series between the 1st place Philadelphia Phillies and 2nd place St. Louis Cardinals, the visiting Cardinals prevailed 7-3. Bob Gibson (pictured) was able to keep the Philly offense in check by scattering 13 hits and 3 walks in 9 innings to get the Win, his 7th of the season. The win moved the Cardinals within a .5 game of the league leaders.

Mike Shannon went deep and had 3 RBI and Bob Gibson had a complete game at
Shibe Park as the blistering-hot St. Louis Cardinals beat the Philadelphia
Phillies by the count of 7 to 3.
Gibson(7-1) gave a fine effort for St. Louis. He was reached for 13 hits and
3 walks in 9 innings. St. Louis had a total of 11 hits for the game.
Woodie Fryman(3-4) suffered the loss. St. Louis won for the 9th straight
time. Red Schoendienst was clearly happy after the game -- 'Everything is
clicking for us right now.'
