The Philadelphia Phillies won the 2nd game of the 3 game series between the top 2 teams in the NL by defeating the St. Louis Cardinals 4-3 in extra innings. After losing the 1st game of the series ,the Phillies evened the series at a game apiece, but it took 14 innings. SS Roberto Pena delivered a bases loaded single in the bottom of the 14th and sent the hometown crowd into a joyful celebration. The rubber game of the series will be tomorrow afternoon.

Bill White cracked a homer and had 3 RBI at Shibe Park as the Philadelphia
Phillies beat the St. Louis Cardinals in 14 innings by the count of 4 to
3.
Both teams were tied at 3 runs apiece after nine innings. Philadelphia ended
up winning it in the 14th inning. White drew a walk. John Briggs came to
the plate and was hit by a pitch. Tony Taylor then delivered a single to
load the bases. Roberto Pena was up next and he laced a base-hit resulting
in an exciting win for Philadelphia and a wild post-game celebration by the
home town fans. Philadelphia had 14 hits for the night.
Gary Wagner(1-0) got credit for the victory, pitching 1 inning and allowing no
runs. Ron Willis(1-1) was tagged with the loss in relief. He surrendered 3
hits and 4 walks in 2 and 1/3 innings.
