1968 NL Game: Chi. @ LA

May 15, 1968

The day after the LA Dodgers defeated the Chicago Cubs 1-0 in 10 innings, the 2 teams 'decided' to repeat the feat. It just took a little longer tonight; 12 innings before the Dodgers won the game 1-0. It was Rocky Colavito who decided the contest, again, by hitting a flyball that centerfielder Adolfo Phillps couldn't handle. Wes Parker came in to score the unearned winning run. Starting pitchers Bill Hands for Chicago and Mudcat Grant for LA were superb on the mound. Hands threw 9 innings of scoreless 2-hit ball and Grant went 11 innings allowing only 4 hits. Neither pitcher got a decision in the game.

Mudcat Grant came through with a solid 11 innings at Dodger Stadium where the
Los Angeles Dodgers beat the Chicago Cubs in 12 innings by the score of 1 to
0.

The game was a scoreless tie after nine. Finally, Los Angeles pulled the game
out in the 12th inning. Wes Parker slapped a base-hit. Jack Lamabe then
threw a high and inside pitch that got by the catcher; it was ruled a passed
ball. Two outs later Tom Haller stepped in and he was walked intentionally.
Rocky Colavito followed and he reached on an error giving Los Angeles the win
as 18,841 happy fans joyfully celebrated. Los Angeles had only 3 hits for
the game.

The victory went to Jack Billingham(2-3) who went 1 inning, allowing no runs.
Lamabe(1-1) was the loser in relief. It was a tough loss for him as he did
not allow an earned run in his 2 and 2/3 innings of work.
