Denny McLain went the distance as the Detroit Tigers beat the California
Angels by a score of 8 to 3.
 
California found themselves trailing quickly as the Detroit bats came through
in the first inning as they scored 3 runs on 3 base hits.  Detroit totaled 11
hits on the afternoon.  
 
McLain(4-1) lasted until the end allowing 3 runs for the win. George
Brunet(2-3) was tagged with the loss.  He was knocked around, surrendering 5
runs in 4 innings.  
 
Detroit now has a record of 15-7.  With the loss, the California ballclub's
record is 8-15.
