John Hiller had a strong outing as the Detroit Tigers topped the Oakland A's
by a score of 3 to 0 at Oakland Coliseum.

Hiller(11-3) pitched one of his finer games as he simply was too much for the
Oakland batters. He didn't give up much, just 4 hits and 2 walks in 9
innings. The pitchers took over after the 4th inning as neither team was
able to score again.

Chuck Dobson(10-18) suffered the loss. He gave up 5 hits and 2 walks in 8
innings. Mayo Smith was very impressed with his pitcher, Hiller, 'He had
unusually good pitch placement tonight. It was almost unfair - but a
beautiful game to watch from where I sat'
