1968 NL Gane: St. Louis @ Cin.

September 4, 1968

After splitting the 1st 2 games of this 3 game series, the last meeting this season between the top 2 teams in the NL proved to be a wild one. After scoring 1 run in the 1st inning and 7 runs in the 3rd, the Cincinnati Reds thought they had gotten control of the game. But the St. Louis Cardinals continued to battle. The lead changed hands 5 times and after scoring 2 runs in the top of the 9th, St. Louis was able to hold off the Reds in the bottom of the 9th and walk away with a 10-9 victory.
With the Win, the Cardinals moved into a 1st place tie with Cincinnati in the NL. Meanwhile, the red-hot San Francisco Giants swept a doubleheader today against the Chicago Cubs and moved within 5.5 games of the league leaders. For San Francisco, it was their 9th Win in a row.
