1968 Detroit Game: Hiller Pitchs Shutout @ Cal.

September 11, 1968

John Hiller threw his 2nd shutout in a row tonight while the Detroit Tigers pounded the California Angels 9-0. For Hiller it was his 6th Win in 7 games since being put into the starters role. He now has thrown 25 consecutive shutout innings. His record stands at 12-3 with an incredible 1.34 ERA.
Willie Horton hit his AL leading 48th homerun of the season and added 2 RBI to his league leading total of 126. Horton has been WAY over-performing in this 1968 replay, as has the whole Detroit team. The Tigers, with 15 games left in the regular season, have a good chance of setting a new record for most Wins by a team in MLB history (116).

John Hiller recorded a complete game shutout and Willie Horton lofted one into
the 'cheap seats' and had 2 RBI as the Detroit Tigers defeated the dreadful
California Angels by a score of 9 to 0 at Anaheim Stadium.

Hiller(12-3) was in control of the game from the outset. He was stingy on the
mound, allowing just 5 hits and 3 walks in 9 innings. Detroit had 13 hits
for the night.

George Brunet(13-10) ended up with the loss. He pitched 3 innings giving up 3
hits and no walks.
