October 7, 1968The Detroit Tigers are the 1968 World Series Champions! Mickey Lolich was virtually untouchable throwing a complete game shutout in the Tigers 7-0 victory over the St. Louis Cardinals. Lolich (pictured) allowed only 4 hits, walked 1 and struck out 6, getting his 2nd Win of The Series. The Tigers scored 4 runs in the 4th inning and that would prove to be all Detroit would need in this game to back Lolich's gem. Catcher Bill Freehan (pictured) hit a bases loaded single and Cardinal left fielder Lou Brock threw the ball away for a 2-base error, allowing all 3 base runners to score and Freehan to go to 3rd. With Don Wert up next, Freehan came home on Ray Washburn's wild pitch to complete the scoring. The Tigers added 3 runs in the 8th, when Freehan was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, a sacrifice fly by Wert and a run scoring double by Lolich.
The Detroit Tigers win the series 4 games to 1 and are crowned 1968 World Series Champions!
