1968 Detroit Game

September 17, 1968

On this date, in real life, the Detroit Tigers clinched the AL pennant after coming from behind in the bottom of the 9th to defeat the New York Yankees 2-1 ( a game I witnessed as a young boy). In this replay game, the Yankees defeated the Tigers 2-0. Actual AL Rookie of the Year pitcher Stan Bahnsen got his 19th Win of the season with relief help from Lindy McDaniel.

Joe Pepitone had 2 base hits as the New York Yankees defeated the Detroit
Tigers 2 to 0 at Tiger Stadium.

New York tallied 2 runs in the 3rd inning with the help of 3 hits. The early
run support proved sufficient for Stan Bahnsen(19-10) and New York. That was
all the run support Bahnsen required. Both teams' bats went to sleep after
the 3rd inning with no runs scored after that point.

Lindy McDaniel recorded his 5th save. Joe Sparma(15-9) took the loss. With
this win, New York has a 73-79 record. They have been 5-5 lately. Detroit
has a record of 113-39 after the loss.
